5 Things That Make Summer the Best Season

Summer is the best season of all. It beats winter by a long shot and has the edge on both spring and fall. Anyone who thinks otherwise is free to express that opinion. Those of us who know the truth about summer do not mind that some people disagree.

What is your favorite season? If it is spring, fall or winter, that’s fine. You obviously have your reasons. To the rest of us, summer is king. Below are five things that make summer the best season. If you do not love summer, perhaps they will give you something to think about.

  • 1. Summer Weather

It is hard to argue against summer when you consider the weather. Warm, sunny days with blue skies are hard to beat. Granted, there are some areas of the country where a dull summer haze obscures the many shades of blue in the sky. But even a hazy day beats the rainy days of spring or winter’s gray skies.

Summer means:

  • warmer temperatures
  • bluer skies
  • refreshing afternoon storms
  • glorious rainbows.

  • 2. Summer Clothes

Summer is the season to unwind and relax in more comfortable clothing. From shorts and tank tops to flip-flops and Plurawl Latino T-shirts, there is no need to be formal most of the time. And of course, the limited volume of summer clothing makes going outside and getting a tan a piece of cake. Who needs to rent time in a tanning booth when mother nature provides everything you need?

Summer means:

  • T-shirts and shorts
  • tank tops and crop tops
  • flip-flops and sandals
  • bathing suits and beachwear.

  • 3. Summer Activities

Being that summer is the season to get outdoors, there are plenty of great activities to keep you busy. You are not cooped up inside, forced to binge-watch TV while eating potato chips and drinking sugary drinks. Summer is an open invitation to get outside and move. It is an invitation to exercise without knowing you are doing it. Summer is also the season to spruce up the outside of your house.

Summer means:

  • baseball and pickup basketball
  • golf, tennis, etc.
  • running, walking, hiking, etc.
  • boating, fishing, and other water sports.

  • 4. Summertime Off

Early June through early September is peak season for taking time off. Parents take their vacation time while the kids are off school. And what do we do when we take time off? We do those things we do not have time to do the rest of the year. We take trips to faraway places we are dying to see. We visit relatives. We sit around the house and enjoy lounging at the pool, reading an enjoyable book, or taking naps.

Summer means:

  • vacation time
  • opportunities to travel
  • time to lie around and do nothing.

  • 5. Summer Food and Drinks

Last but not least are the food and drinks that scream summer. For the kids, there is plenty of ice cream and freeze pops to go around. Piña coladas and daiquiris are the mainstay of the adult crowd. Everybody gets to enjoy the hamburgers, hot dogs, and potato salad. And for those who live to grill, there is nothing quite like a warm July day.

Summer means:

  • grilled meats and vegetables
  • fruit, macaroni, and potato salads
  • ice cold drinks in a variety of flavors
  • ice cream and other frozen desserts.

There is a lot to love about the summer months. Of course, you may prefer one of the other seasons, which is fine. Thankfully, there is a season to satisfy everybody – even those who do not realize that summer really is the best.
