What Do Your T-Shirt Choices Say about You?

The venerable T-shirt is perhaps one of the most versatile pieces of clothing around. T-shirts are so prolific that you might be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t have at least one tucked away in a dresser drawer. On the other hand, a lot of us own more T-shirts than we know what to do with.

Here’s a question: what do your T-shirt choices say about you? We all know that fashion makes a statement, so our choice in tees must say something. It is really a question of whether or not our choices are sending good or bad messages.

1. “Laundry is not a major concern.”

Maybe you are the kind of person who throws all of your T-shirts in a pile. You pick out the one you need for any given occasion, then throw it back on the pile when you’re done. This means every T-shirt in your stack is probably wrinkled to some degree. What kind of message does this send? It tells people that laundry is not a major concern of yours.

Dirty, wrinkled T-shirts have their place. They are great for doing those messy chores around the house. They make for great workwear if you are a manual labourer. They are not the right choice for a dinner date or a business meeting.

2. “Cleanliness and order are my things.”

So maybe you don’t throw all of your T-shirts into a single pile. You launder them frequently and hang them up to dry. Nothing is as pleasing to you as a clean, white T-shirt tucked into the waistband. Your T-shirt choices tell people that cleanliness and order are two things that are important to you.

Police officers and military personnel fit into this category. So do fashion mavens who insist on never leaving the house if a single hair is out of place. Their T-shirts can never be wrinkled. They can never show spots or stains.

3. “I don’t own a single collared shirt.”

There are people who never wear anything but T-shirts. They go to work in a tie and sport coat. They change into a different T-shirt before hitting the club with friends. In the closet is a whole inventory of tees designed for family gatherings, holidays, church services, etc.

If this sounds like you, maybe you are telling the world you don’t own a single collared shirt. Perhaps you do, but no one would ever know because you wear nothing but tees. That’s cool. No one is judging here.

4. “I love passive-aggressive messages.”

Where graphic T-shirts are concerned, messaging can be quite powerful. And according to Five Dollar Tees, many of today’s meme T-shirt messages are nothing short of passive-aggressive statements. The T-shirt is the perfect canvas for people with passive-aggressive tendencies.

Maybe you are the kind of person who feels like your only platform for free speech is your tee collection. You have a closet full of political T-shirts. In your dresser are a few tees with funny slogans and a couple more promoting your favourite bands. But the ones you wear most often are the ones with those subtle messages.

It turns out there is a T-shirt for everyone in this crazy, mixed-up world we all live in. That is what makes tees so much fun. You can choose shirts that project any kind of message you want to send. In the end, no one really cares. T-shirts are a form of clothing that acts as a canvas for any thoughts that strike your fancy. We all get it, and none of us mind.
